I got a phone call from a guy in Kimberley. He just had a trailer built and he wanted to know if we could remodel and upgrade it. They wanted a fridge slider mounted and a few canvas caddies fitted. We were eager to take on the challenge. I didn’t expect the blank canvas that arrived. It was a proper bare-bones trailer. It had just a piece of carpeting in the back and the front runner fridge slide lying on it. Despite being brand new, it leaked like a sieve. Challenge accepted. I showed the owner some trailers and we completed his wish list.😉

First on the list was some checker plate stone guards and protection.

Next, it was fitting the carpeted base and trap doors for utilities.

Then it was time for a second fix for the board and electrical, bet you can’t guess what board the client wanted!

Time for the hard work, and metal fabrication, and as the workshop progressed so did the Canvas room and some custom caddies, which brought the project closer to completion.

The big day arrived and the owner, excited, reversed into the drive. He got out and inspected every detail. He hardly gave me time to explain each feature. All he could say was that he had no words. His wife followed us, tears running down her cheeks. We had won; our client was more than happy and speechless. Could you ask for more?

Trailer remodel and upgrade complete.
On the technical side, this trailer had a water system with a 55l Pioneer water tank. Additionally, it had a high-pressure pump connected to a tap at the back. The electrical system included a 105Ah high-cycle battery, a solar input, and a 220v charger. Furthermore, LED lights were in every compartment and under the shelves. Hella plugs were installed in every compartment as well. Regular 220v plugs were in the kitchen and on the nosecone outside. In the kitchen area, there was a 60l Defy microwave and an Alvey high-pressure stove. The stove was secured with wing nuts for easy cleaning. Meanwhile, the gas bottle was kept in a custom bracket at the back. The main work area had stainless steel surfaces. Moreover, a 2 x 2m fold-down awning provided shelter. Finally, a large canvas bag was made for tables and gear on the roof rack.
The best part was when the owner’s wife asked if she could hug me. Priceless! Ultimately, we successfully completed the trailer remodel and upgrade!
